Reiki

What does Reiki Mean?

REI  - means 'universal' and refers to spirit and soul.

KI - means 'vital life force' which flows in every living thing.

Reiki  (pronounced ray-key) is a system of hands-on healing rediscovered in the middle of the 19th century by Dr Mikao Usui.

Reiki means Universal Life Energy and the energetic power is passed from master to student in a series of attunements.  The Reiki practitioner is then able to channel this life energy through his/her hands to the recipient, where it activates the body's natural healing energy.

What Can Reiki Do for Me?

  • Reiki works by releasing blocked energies, rids the body of toxins and aims to create a state of balance.
  • Reiki can free a person from restrictive mental attitudes and provide a closer connection with inner wisdom.
  • Reiki helps unlock creativity enabling you to reach your true potential.
  • Reiki enhances the benefits of all other therapies.  Reiki is always totally safe.
  • Reiki will increase your energy and vitality as you let go of burdens.  It brings clarity, focus and sense of purpose to daily lives.
  • Helps restore normal sleep patterns.
  • Reiki can be used as part of a health maintenance regime to keep mind and body healthy.

Reiki does not take the place of conventional medicine.  Always consult a GP for an acute or infectious condition and problems of urgent concern.

A Reiki Treatment

A Reiki treatment usually take about one hour.  Before the first treatment, there will be an explanation of Reiki and a short consultation sheet will be completed.   Any questions or concerns can be answered.

You will then be asked to relax on a treatment couch.  It will only be necessary to remove  your shoes.

My hands will be gently placed in a sequence of positions from your head to your feet, either on or just above your body.  These positions are held for a few minutes.

As the healing energy is being channelled through my hands you may notice a sensation of heat as energy blockages within the body are released.  Most people find the treatment deeply relaxing and some will fall asleep.

It is not necessary, however, to notice anything - Reiki works whether the recipient feels anything or not.

After treatment you will be asked not to do anything physical for a while and to drink plenty of water to wash out the toxins.

A course of treatments is preferable, but it is ok to just have the one session if this is all you require.

Some people like to have Reiki treatment occasionally as a special relaxing treat.
