Facial Reflexology

The Bergman Method  -  Reducing Stress for Health and Wellbeing

Facial Reflexology focuses on Reflex (pressure) points on the face, which help stimulate the body's healing mechanisms and help improve circulation and nerve conduction, encouraging the release of toxins from the body via the lymphatic system.  Balancing Reflex points in the face connect to and help balance the entire body.

I have recently completed a course with Ziggie Bergman at the London School of Reflexology on Advanced Facial Reflexology.   The Bergman Method has been developed over more than 20 years by Ziggie Bergman, working with therapists around the world and is based on "Zone therapy".

Facial reflexology works on the same principles as foot reflexology, but with the treatment working the reflexes on your face instead. It is a non-invasive treatment based on the theory that reflexes on your face correspond with different areas of your body, so that stimulating the reflexes can reduce tension in areas of the body that are out of balance, improve underlying energy imbalances and promote overall wellbeing. The face’s proximity to the brain is key to the effectiveness of manipulating facial Reflex points, which directly connect to the body’s neuro-pathways.

As well as the 'reflexology benefit', the 'facial benefit' means that your face will feel and look smoother and more toned as muscle tension is released and circulation increased.

Ziggie Bergman says that some of her clients call it their ‘mini Face-lift’ as Facial Reflexology helps to strengthen layers of skin tissue and improve skin tone.  Furthermore, over the course of a series of sessions, there may be a reduction in lines and wrinkle.

What To Expect

You will lay back in a reclining chair and your hair will held back from your face with a hair band. Your face will then be wiped free of any makeup (excluding the eyes). A few drops of facial oil will be smoothed over your face – I use products from Neals Yard - Rose Oil, Frankincense Oil, or Grapeseed Oil.  The treatment will start with some relaxing massage followed by a sequence of working the whole body through a series of reflex points on the face, followed by more relaxing massage.  The whole will take approximately 50 minutes.

Some of the aims and benefits suggested by Ziggie  Bergman are:

Relieve the effects of stress

Improve circulation to the face and head

Improve lymphatic drainage and remove waste products and toxins

Relieve tension in the muscle tissue

Rieve mental strain and improve concentration

Help relieve sinusitis/congestion

Facial Reflexology has a direct rejuvenating effect on the skin and leaves the face glowing and radiant

Facial Reflexology can bring about a general feeling of calmness and relaxation.
